At first I liked this book. But as I read on, even though I enjoyed parts of it (especially the parts about the dogs), I felt that the book was stretching out to be unnecessarily long.
IMO, the author writes too many details. They make the book drag and don't contribute to the story. They take away from it. I enjoyed some of them but others turned me off. At first I appreciated the details because they were so well-written, but after a while they simply stretched the story out unnecessarily.
Some of the details which explained certain happenings weren't very clear; they were confusing to me. I didn't know if they were poorly written or if I was stupid. (g)

I hated the ending. The last part of the book stressed me out too much. The book left me depressed. That's not why I read. I read to be uplifted. If I want to be depressed, I can find my own means to that end. I don't think that sad endings make a book great, no matter how many pieces of "great literature" have sad endings.
I started out loving this book. I ended up wishing I had never read it.
